So many things happening on and around our high school and college campuses this week!!
Most of our high school Fall sports teams are beginning their season journey’s today
I am headed out early this morning to speak to and pray with our local high school football team as they hit the field for their first practice!! I have to admit, I still get excited when I step out onto a field.
I’ve been thinking about what Jesus meant when He said we must deny ourselves.
Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.”
Jesus tells us in this passage that if you want to follow Him, you must give Him everything!!
You must deny yourself and be willing to suffer for Him.
I have generally thought of this verse as meaning giving up my pride. My selfishness. My personal wants and desires.
But we must also remember this also means we are to give up our loneliness, our fear, our depression, our worries, and our anxiety.
You see Jesus will take all of our burdens!!
Matthew 11: 28-30 “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
If we deny ourselves and let Him have it all, He will be ALL we need!!
He will protect us and give us rest!! He wants what’s best for us and He has a plan for each of our lives.
How are you doing with denying yourself?
Are you still a little prideful? Or selfish?
Or what about your fears? Your worries? Your burdens?
I know I’ve still got a little work to do.
Deny it all……… And PRESS INTO Him every day!!
