The Greatest Gift

The Greatest Gift

I love this time of the year and all the traditions that come with it. Christmas is just a happy time for me personally. We all know how commercialized Christmas has become and how worldly the holiday can be. But for us…..we understand and focus on the real true meaning of Christmas and there is an excitement in our hearts for that true meaning of Christmas Day!! The birth of Jesus started a journey of 33 years that led to our biggest gift of all. The gift of forgiveness, the gift of salvation, the gift of eternal life in heaven. Without that baby in the manger……… where would we be? My morning reading today took me to Psalm 42:1-2 – As the deer longs for the streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before Him?This is a time of the year when many people crave so many worldly things…… Heck -- my 5-year-old daughters Santa list has changed and grown so many times in the past few weeks and days I can’t keep up. Worldly stuff is ok, and I believe God meant for us to be happy and not wanting for things while we are here…….. but are we craving the wrong things when it comes to Christmas time??  Does any of that stuff really matter or make us truly happy? As happy as we are when we think of ourselves standing before God?The headline on my morning devotional reading today asked this question………. What Am I Really Craving? It’s so easy in this busy time of the year to let the desires of our heart wander away from making God’s presence in our life be the most important thing. Seeking Him and pressing into Him is the number one thing in all our lives. Craving Him over anything this world could give you is the path that will lead us to joy and peace!!Over the next 14 days I imagine all of us are going to be hit with the busy-stick!! Whether it be finishing up the school semester and getting finals done and graded, trying to get a work project or goal reached before the end of the year, Christmas shopping, getting ready for holiday guests, or any of the other things that happen this time of the season. My challenge to all of you is to keep your eyes on Him and CRAVE what He has for you. His gift is better than anything we will find under our tree!!What are you really CRAVING today??
